Just wondering if anyone has a diagram showing how all of the horn button parts go together on a '59 F-350. When I got mine the Horn button itself was shot and some of the pieces under it were missing. I believe I've got all the correct pieces now, including a new wire to run through the steering column, but I'm not sure how it all goes together. If anyone has a diagram or illustration of this area, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
So this afternoon I finally got back to this project. I put everything together according to the diagram that FJones provided. I even ran a new wire down through the column (which I probably wouldn't have needed). Now the horn either blows continuously, or it doesn't blow at all.
I've had it apart and back together several times. Getting the horn button itself properly locked in place is difficult, but I think I got it right.
Any ideas as to what else I'm missing?
if you are sure that it is assembled correctly, trace the wire to the horn relay (passenger side fender under the hood) and make sure that the wire is not bare in any places. Any grounded point of that wire will cause the horn to sound. Also while the horn is sounding constantly, try tapping on the metal casing of the horn relay to see if it is stuck inside. That is a common problem with relays in general when they go bad. Every parts store has replacements if you need one.
