I am looking at a 2005 diesel Excursion with 146,000 mi. that seems to be in great shape. Currently have a 2000 V10. Always wanted a late model diesel. I have 2 concerns:
1/ Truck had a "shortblock" at 117,000 miles. Does this mean that the 6L Powerstroke diesel problems were addressed and corrected?
2/ Truck has 20" wheels with 35x13.50 R20LT tires. Would this modification have produced drivetrain stress?

Nope! Just means that you have an engine with only 29,000 miles on it. Not saying they didn't update anything, but the fact that it has a new engine is no guarantee.

Yup! Not a huge amount necessarily, but it will certainly eat balljoints and steering components faster.
Truck is listed at $19,950.
Thanks.
That's about what KBB says it should be, and with fresh power I'd say it's a good deal. And you're welcome!
Took our Commander in for repairs and this was on the lot. Just traded. Looks great but note that new tires are going to be $450@!! My current V10 2000X has 136,000 and is beginning to show its age . Would love to "update" to 2005 but anxious about engine issues and don't know of any way to spot a potential problem.

If that's concerning to you then maybe you should keep your current Excursion. Nothing against 6.0L trucks, but they're very expensive to fix. The PO probably spent between $7-10,000 on his new engine, and there's still lots of expensive stuff that can break.
You would have more power with a 6.0L engine, but with it comes a hugely increased potential repair liability. I wouldn't do it!
