97 7.3 L with auto, anything to worry about?

I inherited my dad's 1997 f250 7.3 L super duty with auto. My dad bought it new in 97. He didn't use it much and has only 58,000 miles. Question is I have heard that the weak link is the auto transmission. I am going to pull a 26 foot camp trailer this summer and would you all do anything to the tranny to beef it up to prevent a break down? Appreciate any input.

My 96 F350 pulled a 14K 5r without issue when it was new. Might wanna get the fluid changed, just because. Then maybe look at adding an additional tranny cooler inline. You can get one for maybe $50 and put it in yourself.

Heat is what kills them. If you want, put a trans temp guage in it. Personally I don't see any issues with it.

Like the above said, fluid change, filter and definetly get a different trans cooler. For some reason ford thought the tiny 2 pass thing up front was going to be good enough..... I have over 330K on one of my trucks with the original trans still in it.

Thanks guys for the advice. I will look into a change and better cooler. I really like this truck. It pulls hills around here with no problem.
