My rear wheels keep locking up, real easy. And the fronts don't seem to be helping much.
I understand the process for adjusting the rear brakes is to get it close, then backup 10 feet and stop, then keep repeating the backup/stop processs until they adjust.
Yes, your procedure is correct, IF your automatic adjusters are working properly. And from my experience that's a pretty IFFY assumption.
If you remove the little rubber or spring caps from the backing plates on the bottom, you can access the adjusters to manually adjust the brakes. I forget which way you have to turn them, but it is pretty obvious because the self-adjusters prevent them from turning backward. If you over-do and get them too tight, you need to reach thru the slot with an extra screwdriver and push the self-adjusting lever out of the way while you turn the adjuster back to a tolerable level. If you shine a flashlight thru the slot, you can probably see which way the threads run on the adjuster, and what you need to do!
Good Luck, Steve
Yeah, I helped some guy do that and it locked his up, and I guess he was like 4 miles from his house... So I would recomend doing this close to home... Just in case....
