Something that rotates after engine shut off? (Long post)
Hey all,
2000 2 valve (I think) v10 in class c motor home. I had a miss and loss of power so I started to investigate. No CEL. Did not pull codes. After reading up here at FTE I decided to check the cops. With engine running pulled the electrical connectors off each cop, one at a time and found all cylinders were firing. Replaced cop boots, checked connections, made sure all spark plugs were tight, cleaned maf, checked pcv, cleaned throttle body, new airfilter, cleaned battery connections. Buttoned it all back up. Seems to run great. Idles well, good throttle response. Finally, here's my question. I can hear a piece of something bouncing around near the back of the passenger side valve cover. Not loud, have to listen closely. This is where it gets weird. When I shut the engine down I can hear something continue to spin /rotate for several revolutions along with the random piece of who knows what bouncing around. There should not be anything moving in the valve train after shut off right? There is some kind of unit mounted to back of engine right behind valve cover. Has a couple large air / vacume lines and electrical connection. Could something be spinning in that along with a piece of debris? Thanks for any input you all may be able to provide.
Thanks for the reply. Heater controls set to off. fan is off. is off. I have come to the conclusion it is a check ball. When vacuum is released it drops and rattles a little. I am not going to worry about it too much. Last time I listened could'nt hear it. As far a the rough running I gave it to the shop and they came up with #8 cop firing intermittently. Maybe that explains why condition got worse as motor got warmer? haven't got it back so we will see.
Yeah, if you have moisture in one of the holes, it'll take a while, but then suddenly vaporize and cause it to misfire. Wait overnight, the vapor condenses, drips down to the bottom and everything's fine. And repeat.
I've had it happen with my 4.6L's... so far I've been good at keeping my V10's holes clean and dry
