Is there a way to tell if you have a limited slip by lifting the tires and turning one of them. It seems like I heard of doing this before but I can't remember. If you can do this what do you look for, both tires turning in same direction or in opposite directions?
Thank in advance.

There is no door jamb sticker or diff tag. This is a salvage title truck (1977 f250 4x4) that I got from a friend for doing some work for him. Truck is pretty rough but it starts and goes through mud pretty well. I'm just having fun with it till it dies. Just wondered if it had limited slip or somthing because it has way better traction than my 1991 did before the locker.
Raise the rear end with the vehicle in neutral. Turn one wheel, if it is a limited slip, the other wheel will turn in the same direction. If it is an open differential, the other wheel will turn in the opposite direction.
If you wanna jack up the whole rear then leave it in gear. Both back tires can spin foreward even with an open diff when it's in neutral. If it's in gear then one back tire must spin backwards to allow the other to spin foreward. If you cannot turn the tire then it's prolly a LS.
A better way to do this is to jack up one back tire with it in neutral and try to spin it. If it spins then it's open and if it doesn't it's prolly LS.
