Ford 9" build!

Im looking to build a tough diff for my truck. Im getting sick of breaking weak and worn out 9" that will "just do for now". I'm wondering whats the most affordable and durable way to go. I have the carrier but need new 3:50 gears and a detroit locker. where would you guys shop to get the best bang for the buck for this build? and how much am i looking to spend?

What are you doing when they break?

Currie Enterprises All 9 Inch Ford

Do you have 31 spline axles and big bearings?

Any sign of housing flex or bending?

Do you have "traction bars" or similar bars to avoid axle wrap?

If you're breaking a Ford 9, then it's time for a Dana 60 or adapt a 14-bolt.. but ya gotta go eight lugs.

Alternatively, more splines and axles/ ring gears with better metallurgy in the Ford Nine.

Axles cost... spend wisely.

Im honestly not hard on them at all. Spinning the 33" tires at about 15kph on an icy approach and they catch concrete is all it took. granted i do do quite a bit of offroading but the rear ends i pull out of these old trucks are SLOPPY. I don't want to switch to a 60 when i know a properly built 9" will last me.

Then you've answered your own question.... Stop using junk and build a Nine using quality components.

Gets expensive when you deal with Currie or Moser, but you don't have to go top money to get a 9er that will last.

First, buy some new gears and bearings. Have someone who knows 9s set it up AFTER a good inspection of the carrier. Add a locker or LS if you want.

You can beef up your housing as well. Just look at the pretty pictures on those sites for how they brace them.

Make sure you have some method to avoid axle wrap--slapper bars or whatever.

3.50s are $219 at Currie, about what I've seen in other posts for a r & p set.
