Post Flush Temp Differential

Truck has 105K and had never been flushed so I installed fumotos
and performed the flush procedure including using Restore.
Refilled with ELC.

Temp differential in the summer months at highway speeds was
usually around 12*. Yesterday it was at 28* and this morning at 20*.

Will it help at this point to back flush the cooler or is the cooler
permanently plugged?

ECT stays at 190*.

I am more and more convinced that flushing the cooling system is really bad idea. All it seems to do is stir up the junk and clog the oil cooler. I haven't found any evidence that flushing a system with delta's getting marginal does anything but guarantee a new oil cooler will be installed very very soon.

I agree for sure.

I have looked for a list of parts needed for oil cooler R&R, but can't find a
thread with a concise list.

Does this cover everything?
Required:
Oil Cooler Assembly
Turbo install kit

Optional:
Updated Turbo Feed and return lines
Turbo Cleaning Kit

Any other Gaskets or other things I'm missing?
This is an '04.

Craig,

I saw my delta's steadily climb at the end of last summer and into the winter. In early fall I was seeing deltas in the upper teens to 20* and spent a full day flushing and reverse flushing. Guess how many degrees I saw my delta drop.. 0*. I've heard some people say that the flush and reverse flush can help buy you some time if you get to it early enough. But once you start seeing delta's around 20* the crud in the oil cooler is probably pretty well lodged in there for good.

Just did my oil cooler R&R and EGR delete this past Friday.

Couple of thoughts:
- You don't mention EGR delete. Would be a good time to do so while you're there or if you want to keep the EGR cooler might be good to replace it with a new one.
- All of your o-rings should come with the oil cooler kit
- You'll want to get new intake manifold gaskets

Good luck! There's lots of smart guys on here so you'll have all the help you could possibly need!

With an 03 build date you may not have to do anything to the EGR cooler, it may be OK.

Yes, the early ones had a better design.

But I do like the idea of a egr full delete or a stealth delete to keep the system cleaner.

If everyone is seeing problems with the flush, how about a drain and refill? that shouldn't stur up much should it?

thanks

I haven't had issues after just draining and filling. The chemical flushes are really only for when you are already committed to changing the oil cooler, it'll knock all the crap loose and flush it out so the new one is less likely to clog. I don't buy into the flush-and-backflush procedure as maintenance, it's for when you're actually repairing a problem.

I'll be sticking with water only for future cooling system flushes/drain & fills.

I suppose the cleaners would still be necessary if you had oil contamination in the coolant system.
