My 351 idles at 35 psi and holds 65 psi at 2500 rpm using Syntech 5w-50 synthetic oil.

5w-50 is that common to use in a 351m?

The correct oil weight depends on your climate. The Haynes manual has a chart in the front, but I'd never use 5W in an old cast-iron engine. It's recommended for newer ones just for emissions reasons, but I'd stay with 10W-40 even if I lived in Alaska. I use 20W-50.

I use to uses 15-40 in my f150 it had a 300-6 and it would'nt burn the oil as quick. but I have only had my bronco on the road for about 2 weeks so I 'm still not sure if it uses oil or not when I got it I put in 10w30 and a bottle of slick50 hoping to lube things abit better but I'm not sure if it's working have you ever used any addatives and if not should I go to a heavier weight ?

I use 5w-50 in all of my vehicles including my Ford riding lawn mower. My class A motorhome has over 175,000 miles on it and still uses no and I mean no oil between 3000 mile changes. Yes the syntech 5w-50 is super expensive but I credit the long life of my Bronco, Mustang,Supercrew & Pace Arrow to the continued use of it .
