I haven't tried apple brandy, have had homemade apple cider. you want something that will kick u in the butt try distilled apple wine. by time the guy was done distilling it, it was almost pure. a stronge bit but it was just what the doctor ordered that day.
putting it in the freezer is an easy way to distill alcohol. When it freezes whats left liquid is alcohol. drain the liquid dispose of the ice and then stick it back in the freezer. do this long enough and up end up with almost pure alcohol.
In the seventies, I served in a RN Air Station in Cornwall England. There they have a cider beverage called Scrumpy, that will blow your socks off. I made the mistake of thinking it was not strong, and downed a UK pint (20oz) What a mistake - It caused double vision almost immediately, and removed my usual inhibitions. After 4 of these 'pints' I was totally out of it. I woke up the next day, had a drink of water and was back totally drunk again for the whole day: I never bothered with the stuff again.. Being drunk once was enough to convince me it is not a good thing.
While we are on the subject of alcohol and the like a very good friend showed me his still he got at Sears. It is a water distiller and all he does is put in wine and it comes out looking and punching like everclear. It is a small kitchen appliance about the size of a blender, and keeps it in his shop along with his spudgun.
