So, I was given a 94 f-350 with a factory turbo today. I went through the engine to see what is needed to make it fire. The truck has sit for about 4-5 years. The only thing that is throwing up a red flag is this one component. It's leaking oil down to the exhaust manifold. I have no idea what this is or how it can be repaired. I figure its part of the oil cooling system.
the olny thing i can think of is the urathane sealent for the chip borde is melting and ozzing out?!? unless theres a oil line under it for some reason the turbo looks pritty new to me could it have a botched oil return line ? idk someone on here will know
I probably should have checked the liquid. It seemed to be thicker than water. It was a kind of golden color like fresh oil. I guess I am 90% sure that is was oil. I know the truck has only been sitting a few years, so I am not too worried.
this is a IDI correct ? ya it has to be i see the fuel lines ... to my knowage there should be no oil there unless its running over from maybe your dipstick do u have a crankcase vent ?
ya im a thoushand% positive its your glowplug controler that said oil cant be comeing from it.. if it is oil it must be comeing from another source i was just not sure about where its mounted but ive never seen a 94 IDIT so i have no idea what they moved
Ah, that ain't nuthin...LOL Does she run? That is the question. I sure wouldn't worry with that. Since you have asked this question I am going to volunteer a few things, if you already know these things, then please forgive me.
Glowplugs, make sure they are motorcraft beru only.
Fuel lines, make sure there are no leaks, diesels will not run with air intrusion.
When you first turn the key on your WTS light, (wait to start) should come on for about 10 seconds, then you will here clicking from the GP controller. That is the, "afterglow" helps reduce white smoke on initial startup.
Congrats on your gift! I would take one as a gift any day of the week!

I am very open to learning the tricks of the trade, I only learned the glowplug thing from a few youtube videos just last night. I am worried that my glowplug system may be hooked up to a switch, there are one or two toggle on the dash that I have no idea what they work. Looks like I'll have to chase the wires down.
Unfortunately I couldn't fire the truck because it only had 1 of 2 batteries in it. And I am pretty sure that battery has been in there since it was parked a few years ago. This weekend I will get two new batteries and see what happens.
I will tell you this, when I bought my first IDI I found this site. Since then I have owned a total of 3 and looking for my 4th. Now, I am not afraid of ANYTHING on these trucks. These guys have taught me more than I have ever learned in a classroom. Great bunch of folks here that have a true appreciation for these old rigs. I am always, always, always going to own and IDI. I am shopping for another one. So if you run across any more of those free ones, just pm me wouldya? If you post in on here EVERYONE will beat me to it!
The more I read, the more excited I am to work on it. Unfortunetly the truck is about 30 minutes away in the country and not near any auto stores. So I really I have to plan my weekend outings. Hopefully some fresh glow plugs and batteries will be enough to breathe some life back into this truck.
If I ever get a freebie I don't want I'll be sure to let you know, haha!
UPDATE: Got the truck running this weekend. Didn't take much more than some fresh batteries.
Now I have a new set of problems. Haha. Firstly being electronics. I let one of my friends come see my new truck and he thought it would be hilarious to smash this piece when the truck wouldnt stop dinging from an open door.
Needless to say I am not asking him to come over when I work on my truck. Now a lot of my lights on the dash no longer work along with my radio. Im not sure if this thing controlled all that, but if anyone has any insight id be most grateful.
Secondly I did find out what my oil leak was. Apparently th. Louisiana heat had managed to melt the gel in the glowplug controller. So now when I turn the truck on the WTS light comes on for a second or two and clicks off. After that a continous clicking can be heard every few seconds.
