I had my windshield replaced this week and had the guy leave the chrome trim off because I was gonna replace the windshield washer motor. Well got the motor in and now I can't seem to get the trim back on!!!!!!! Does it just snap in place? I have a few pieces snapped on and can't get the rest and can't take the one's that are snapped back on.
Also, he got some of the black caulk on my paint when he installed the window, will anything take this off without damaging the paint?
You can get the tool to remove the trim at Harbor Freight in a bag with 3 or 4 others for under $10, but it's just a piece of flat steel shaped like an arrow with a very blunt tip. You hook one of the sides behind the clip & pry it out slightly.
The bottom trim has plastic tabs with a VERY small hook edge that grabs the fixed clips on the firewall. The rest have a rivet post sticking out from the windshield opening where a spring clip is installed. The trim is retained by these clips. If they're missing, it'll never stay. I had a section blow off on the road after my last w/s replacement.
Just wait for the caulk to dry THOROUGHLY (like a week or 2) and rub it off with your finger.
