HP please

Just got my first f250, technically a 350 because the front axle was converted to a dana 60. Looking to increase my horsepower and speed. Has a 7.5L 460 in it, good looking truck, I just want it to be fast and loud. And I'm not trying to beat anyone in a race and I'm not looking to sink $15,000 into it and have the engine blow, just a few tweaks and add-ons that will push me over 300 horses. Suggestions? Thanks

I'm just going to throw this out there, if you're looking for power, you're going to lose some of what little MPG your truck is getting. And for the safety of everyone else on the road, don't look for speed unless you're taking this truck to the track.

With that said, bump your timing a little. Put on new plugs and wires, put on some long tube headers and 3" exhaust. If you want loud then straight pipe it. If you don't want anybody to absolutely hate you, put some mufflers on it

What gears do you have? And how many miles are on this truck? And what year is it? Not that it matters too much.

Thats almost a comflicting post. Horse power is directly proportional to money. The more you want the more it costs.

fast n' loud....hmm get a stock car, they are both fast and loud...these trucks are for towing and hauling not speed, and for safety I wouldn't suggest going faster then what the truck is able to do in a safe mannor...

if your still dead set on it exaust, engine, regear it (whats your current gear set up???)

I agree with the second post, bump timing, new spark plugs and wires and that stuff...

...oh and lots of stickers, they add HP...least the ricers in the little hondas seem to say so

Haha nothing like waking up to a Friday with everyone thinking I'm a moron...and you did sway me on the power trip so I'll probably leave that alone for awhile, but I'm not trying to **** people off with noise but there's an exhaust for every truck that almost anyone can enjoy right??

Who doesn't want a little mor power right? The 460 is more of a torque motor 300 hp is actually quite a bit for this truck engine. You can't go wrong with good exhaust, either a free flowing two into one or a true dual with a cross over pipe. Muffler choice is subjective! I like flow masters but many people prefer a turbo type mufflers sound. Headers will pickup some usable power as well and add to an aggressive sound. As was already mentioned, a good tuneup with cap, rotor, plugs, wires and bump the timing to12*. Open up the airflow with good air filter, maybe remove silencer baffles from the intake track if you have them. I don't think you mentioned the model year, but I'd say try to maximize your torque under 4k RPM

This is not necessarily true. A typical combustion engine of this era does well to use about 25% of the energy available in the fuel it uses. The rest of the energy is lost in heat, friction and unburned out the tail pipe. So if a modification increases the efficiency, it can also increase the power output. That's why you're seeing modern trucks with over 300 HP and 400 ft-lbs of torque available, yet also have the ability to get over 20 MPG.

Oh no, I don't think you're a moron at all. I'm just trying to enlighten you on what to expect. You said this is your first truck, so I'm telling you the things I wish somebody would have told me when I first got mine.

I will agree that you can put an exhaust on it that sounds good, but it won't be obnoxious. I, like OldGrayFord, am a fan of Flowmaster mufflers. I had a 50 series on my truck for quite a while that sounded really good. It had a very nice rumble at idle, good tone to it just cruising through town, and if you stomped on it getting onto the highway it was pretty loud. 3" duals wouldn't be a bad idea on a 460. You might also look into getting headers for it, I believe a company called L&L makes headers for the 460 that are of very good quality.

But like the other things I said, a good tune up will help with performance.

You've got me there, However, I think that the OP will find that just about any more performance upgrades besides the things I first recommended will lead to MPG loss.
