Milage Askewed...
During the end of last summer this truck was parked because my dad lost his job and really diddnt have anywere to drive for a while. It was parked with around 152,000 miles. After a few months (it was parked around september) my sister drove it until she bought herself a truck in december. Anyway we've driven the truck off and on since december but mostly city driving.. now we bought the truck 6 months used in 91... and managed to get it to 152,000 miles since then. Now im wondering how in the hell did the milage go from 152 .. to 81,842 in like a 6-7 month span?!?!? I have no idea how one would reset the milage so i dont think thats the case.. and unless my sister drove like 130,000 miles in only about 3-5 months im thinking the odometer may be broken. Its the only logical explanation to why it would gain this many miles so quickly. Any thoughts on what i could do to rectify this problem?
I do sometimes have the problem of the truck stalling in reverse but its very very rare. Im pretty sure i have an AOD tranny but i would like to make sure. Its also lugging slightly when driving. I dont notice it in reverse but i notice it when driving, wether im accelerating or just cruising. Before i continue i might add that the biggest thing that has gone wrong in this truck was the gaskets between the cylheads and the block had blown and were leaking oil. This was fixed by a local mechanic. The truck also got new front brake rotors and pads recently, and around 96-97 it got new shocks and the AC was rebuilt. Other than this no other real big maintanence has been done to this truck. My dad was never big on rutine maintanance.. he rarely changed the oil or did anything to the truck... if it FELT like something was wrong or if something blatent happend like the brakes ground and rumbled when he used them ( cause of the new rotors and pads ;\ ). Im guessing when i get a bit more cash i should just go through the engine and replace stuff like fuel injectors, dist cables if not the entire distributor system, spark plugs, Completely drain the oil and put new stuff in ( only has oil put in not drained.), fuel pump ect..
Well id like to see some input from you experianced pro's out there. This truck was a real work horse in its prime. It saw work time on an 11 acre ranch in paradise valley, a farm truck in arkansas for almost a year ( dad bent the rear bumper on that one). It went back and forth from phoenix to geep arkansas 4 times! 2 times its 8 foot bed was loaded over cab level while towing a late 80's blazer, we easliy maintained 80 mph except for a few hills deep in arkansas. This truck is a workhorse even for a fuelie 5.0. It even hauled like 2-3 beds full of bricks and about the same number of loads of good AZ dirt! Not to mention the countless moves we've helped other people with. I'll tell you when my sister was driving the truck she could easily roast the tires in this tired old workhorse. Gutless? i think not.. it just needs to be treated right. ( i wont mention that im running on stock gearing and stock sized tires.. if i do people will throw sharp things at me.
Ok this thing is long enough.. ENOUGH RANTING FROM ME!
p.s. you want gutless drive my 79 pinto.. it cant even chirp the tires with one person in the car when floored.. of course its seen better days... When i ripped the motor apart i found the intake had one of its ports completely clogged with what looks like burnt oil and carbon deposits.. sealed shuT! wouldnt go into reverse unless you let the motor run for a while.. (thinking the tranny had too much fluid in it or something cause after a little bit of driving and the fluid ran through the tranny it would shift into reverse without even a stutter. Damn it im rambling again!! ok this time im done...
