Anti Theft

Hi I have been working on Installing a anti theft device on a 1992 F250 with dual tanks. It has a 7.5 liter 460 in it. I have been trying to find the negative wire to the fuel pumps so I can run a interupter switch to turn off the fuel pumps so the engine will crank if someone trys to steal it. My only question is which wire do I need to tap into. I need to ge this project finished asap.

Thanks in advance

Don't go to the ground side, the inertia switch would be the easiest place. An anti theft device like "the club" is a better deterent. Thief is more inclined to walk by instead of breaking up your steering column to find out it still won't start.

The ground wire for the fuel pumps run to Ground G100 located on the radiator support behind the driver side headlight. As noted above it would be much easier to put the interupter on the supply side.

Use this diagram for reference:

The above diagram is for a 1991 F-series truck which is very similar to your 1992

I have put simple kill switches on my trucks and cars for years . I would interrupt the coil feed on older ones . Fuel feed on the newer ones . A simple toggle switch well hidden can keep your drunk buddy from going for more beer .. IN YOUR TRUCK ! Ask me how I learned that one ! And my Ins. agent , the Sheriff , ... THE WIFE ! I'll stop there . LOL ! Lesson learned .

Not sure, they are all black. Disconnect each one until the fuel pump stops. Just remember the fuel pump will prime for only a second or two when cycling the key from Off to Run. Or you could jump the correct pins on the diagnostic data link, can't remember which ones right now, to permit full time fuel pump operation. Process of elimination..

I'm just going to put this out there, it is SO unlikely that somebody is going to see your truck and steal it. Not that it couldn't happen, but it's so unlikely. Somebody is much more likely to break into the cab and steal something of value out of it and walk off.

And now with that out there, I'd bet that you can lock your doors, have the back window latched if it slides, and I could get into your truck through the vent window in less than 15 seconds.

I am also planning to install a alarm system later on. This is just a temp. fix until I get the money to install one. I will try those grounds to find the correct ground tommorrow. I will report back what I find out. Thanks for the help

You're asking for trouble interupting the ground. It could back feed through other components. The inertia switch should be easier to tap into.

I do not agree with everything in the post above. Almost every single actuator/solenoid on these vehicles are fed voltage whenever the key is on and they are turned on/off by completing the path to ground via the PCM or another relay or switch. I see no reason not to proceed with what you are asking about. Personally I do agree with the last statement above, much easier to tie into the supply voltage near the inertia switch.

I tried those 2 wires and neither of them did a single thing to stop the fuel pump from delivering fuel. Do you know what color the ground wire is and where the general location is so I can tap into the wire by the gas tanks.

On a side note my brother has had one on his truck for years and has given him not one problem.

Just to make it simple , Find the inertia switch . Pass side kick panel I think . Sepperate the wires wide , Close your eyes , snip one ! It don't matter which one . Now , run wires to a switch jumping the snipped wire, Easy , ain't it . Put a fuse in for good measure to be safe , and your theft system is complete . Don't over think it , that only leads to headaches .

According to my manual and pic I posted the ground for the fuel pumps and sending units is G100 which is a black wire and it is located on the upper radiator support behind the driver side headlight.
