got a 1976 ford f100 with a 360. it has the old style air filter and intake thing that has oil in it. i want to get an oil-less one. can i just clean out the old one and put a regular filter in it? or is there an aftermarket air intake i need to run? whats the best option?
why did they use oil back then in the first place....this was my first experience with it
The "oil bath" filter was well-suited for extremely dusty areas and was an option for these trucks. If you want to go to the traditional dry type, you'll need to change out the air cleaner entirely. You can use a factory-style unit with a snorkel, or an open-element aftermarket unit. I'm not sure if anything else needs to be changed or not.
I have an Edelbrock air cleaner assy. on my 78 . Bolt on assy . Easy. Unless you are looking for stock . But stock can be found at salvage yards , and on line .
Well , if you like it and the $$ , It will probably work . Mine looks more like the Mr. Gasket one but is Edelbrock . Got it at O'reiley's for about $30. with filter . Mine is chrome thin steel .That one is a bit different, looks like a K&N type filter with it . But it should work .
Buy a cheep one and black it out . Heck , In the 80's I blacked out a CB750 . Tore it down , flat blacked everything . The exaust was the only tricky part . Got a 4-1 header with muffler that was all black . $$ If I still had it I'd post some pics . Kids took priority Now , my 75 Cb is in the barn , just waiting
