trans issue
trans issue
Ok. I have a 2002 F-150 4x4. Truck has only 68k miles. It sat up for several years. Just started driving it again. I have a trans issue. I was getting up to highway speed, it shifted through the gears fine until overdrive. when overdrive kicked in all it did was rev up. it does not pull in od. seems to be just slipping. I notice a slight load but not really pulling. i turned the od off and tans started pulling again. I drove it home this way. When i got home and put truck in park, I noticed a whining noise from trans. i put truck in reverse and it made a loud clanking noise going into gear. it does not do this going into drive. Could this possibly be a TCC solenoid? Any help is greatly appreciated.
If there is a transmission electrical control issue, the OD light should be on and a code set in computer.
The CEL won't be on for this since it's not an engine issue.
If a mechanical failure then there may be no other indications but noise and performance at the present time.
Good luck,

Good luck,
You spelled out the problem in the first line of your post...The truck sat for a few years. Ford automatics in these trucks can't be allowed to sit around unused for any length of time. The contaminants in the oil settle out in the passages and servoes and gum up the works so they don't function right. Sometimes you luck out and a fluid change and "babying" it for a few hundred miles will fix things, or sometimes they just burn up the bands and clutches. I have had one of each in a few months! Since I bought my truck I have seen four more with the same problem. No more Fords for me!
