Diff covers?
Any one used this brand? http://mrtruck.net/pml60instal.htm opinions? Mine is rusted and thinking about replaceing soon. Thought the extra oil capacity and drain would be nice

I used the Mag-Hytec for both of my diffs.....Ya I like them but after spending almost $550 pluse more $$$ for the extra gear oil I dont think I would spend that kinda money again...That was in 2006 when I was working more hours pre week. Now I have to watch every $$ I spend.

I hear that (watching $)........thats why the ford OEM aluminum are looking better...but the truck is about to be used for solid towing and my primary concern is heat dissipation and easy fluid change. I want the truck to last as long as possible with the least downtime. thanks everyone for your input

AL covers from Summit Racing were only $90 each...the added cooling, extra pint capacity, and drain plug in the rear cover are well worth the extra spend. Front cover is not really adding any value if your looking to save a few bucks.

Per my experience drain on the cover doesn't work very well.
Most of the differentials will hold 1/2 cup of oil and heavy dirt at the bottom and usually that stuff needs to be mechanically wiped out.

And only need changing once every like 200K miles, so after changing the cover and fluid the first time, that will probably be the last time.

I too am going to be heavy towing about 90% of our yearly mileage with our F-250 SD. I've done the regear from 3.73LS to 4.30LS. We went with Yukon gears for the 4.30's.
I haven't heard anything discouraging about the Yukon gears at all. But, since we're going to be using them pretty hard we'd like all the insurance we can get with the increased fluid capacity and added heat dissipation that a Mag-Hytec or similar aftermarket finned aluminum cover would offer.
Only thing bad I've heard of the aftermarket covers is if you fill them with fluid to the recommended level it will be well above the factory fill hole line. Consequently, there has been cases where the fluid level has been above the factory fill hole and will come out the vent tube. I have read that Ford says that their differentials should not be filled over the factory fill line regardless of what Mag-Hytec says.
That having been said, if you use the factory fill hole as a guideline using the Mag-Hytec cover you only have a 4.5 qt. capacity as opposed to the 6 qt. capacity touted by Mag-Hytec which partially defeats the purpose of the higher capacity cover.
Just wondered what the consensus thinking on this was with all of you here.
