I found a smallblock Ford whilst cleaning out my abandoned and humble rental property today. (BTW, MUCH humbler than it was when I rented it out a couple years ago, but thats a very long story with a sad ending).
Can anyone decipher the calibration stocker on the valve cover or is a block number better? I don't recall where ithe number is located. It has the highly desirable variable venturi carburetor. Sitting in a dark corner but it looks like an early 80s car motor to me.
Post the calibration number. I have reference material that might match it. Best guess sight unseen would be a 4.2L V8 that was only around a couple years. In F100 for a year and in some passenger cars and the square t-bird model. Looks almost like it's big brother the 302.
Pat's right. WITH THE VV carb, it's either a 255 or a 302. There is a slight possibility that it's a 351, but doubtful. Look at the distributor mounting pad. If it's virtually flush with the intake mounting surface, it's a 255 or 302. If it sits about an inch below the intake end seal, it's a 351. Should it turn out to be a 255, promptly deposit it in the nearest trash receptacle. One word: JUNK! Zero parts compatibility with anything useful.
Fenders,
I know this page will not explain to you how to find the size of the engine, but it will let you know what year it was made, and what it came out of.
