Hi, all. I am picking up a 56 m100 that I just made a deal on. It's a ways away so I have to get it. the guys getting too old to finish it. Body has been removed, frame sandblasted and painted. He has brought the body completely down to bare metal, replaced and repaired any issues and primed including the interior. The professionally rebuilt 223 (matching #) has 0 miles on it. The concern I have is that he is asking a good buck for it. $8K. I have already agreed on the price, but i really can't get a handle on the restored value of these trucks in mint restored condition. They are hard to find on the web. Best I can determine, in completely original condition, they can bring from $18k-$45k. Quite a swing.Although I will end up driving it, I will eventually sell it for something else and I would prefer not to take a loss on it. Can any of you give me a rough idea what a totally restored body off all original 56 m100 could bring. Also, I am in Western Canada and even though most parts are there, I will be in need of a few things I'm sure. Any tips on suppliers? Thanks for reading
Welcome. As always, to give you a better opinion, the guys here would need to see a lot of pictures. I pay more attention to the 48-52 bonus builts than I do the 53-56's, and even less to the Mercurys. But my gut reaction would be that's a pretty fair price IF he indeed has started a complete restoration and done it right so far, especially with the body panels and the engine. The key will be whether or not you get ALL of the truck's pieces. My personal advice is that you have to go into this expecting to lose money. You'll never get out of it what you have in it. But IF he really has done that engine and chassis correctly, and truly is just too old or tired to finish it, 8 grand doesn't sound all that bad. But then again, I saw a "1954 F-100 kit" advertised on the local craigslist here yesterday. It was a failed project that was literally missing the entire cab, engine, and all 4 fenders, and that fool still wanted $8500 for it.
This is a link to the flickr site. It appears he has been truthful and the truck looks like he has done some good work on it. Let me know what you think.
Looks like it is well on it's way to completion. Upgraded brakes, etc. Has he fired the engine since the rebuild, replaced the clutch, new wiring, etc?
Enjoy your new project. Hopefully you will get to drive it soon.
I personally think that truck looks good. The pics of the chassis and the engine bay show good work. It will be interesting to see what the others think, but I honestly think that's not a terribly bad price, especially considering what some finished trucks are getting nowadays.
I see power steering, updated brakes, rear end swap and all of these are ok things
I see an aftermarket wiper motor, Looks to be missing the center **** on the radio (very hard to find)
Engine is painted the wrong color should be a bright yellow. Air cleaner is missing a metal bracket (always are missing) that goes from the air cleaner to the manifold to help secure.
Has all the HTF mercury badges and horn button YEA!
Driver side rims are not the originals and will not accept the factory hub caps.
Just a few of the things I noticed. I love the truck and I wish it was mine!
If you got the rest of the parts, you got a killer deal IMHO. Even if that is all you got you didn't get hurt judging by the pictures. Don't cut any corners finishing it now if you want top $ resale value.
Hey, that looks like my truck.. I'm far from being the expert on these trucks, but I'm not new at restoring cars. It sounds like you won't get hurt by restoring it and enjoying for a while before you sell it.
I think that in Western Canada that`s a fairly decent deal from what I see in those pictures.
I`ve had my eye on this 54 for a while but the place it`s stored at is snowed in so I can`t get to see it just yet. I like it but I can see alot of work to get it the way I`d want. 1954 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck - Regina Collector Cars For Sale - Kijiji Regina Canada.
Unfortunately we have had alot of snow in this area meaning it`ll be a little while yet before I can actually get to see this one. With the time I`ve had to think about it I may just decide to wait for my 56 M100 for it`s final body work and prep done then the paint to follow.
A good friend of mine has been working on it for the past 3 yrs and he has abit of a health issue along with his full time welding repair business booming and some other things getting in the way. He does good work and charges me a very reasonable amount so while I`d like to be behind the wheel soon I`m not going to be on his case, he is doing the best he can.
What are the production numbers on M100s? I'm sure there weren't as many produced as F100s. I've always liked the M100 just because they are rare in the US. What do you guys do about tailgates and badging?

Both are great looking trucks!!!!
I had the production numbers, they were very small compared to the Ford trucks, but I can`t find them now but I will keep looking.
