Engine Swap
The 400 has got the same bolt pattern as the 429/460, and will not bolt to your AOD.
I'm guessing that you are going to have to have a lot of modifications made to make it work right, I would suggest that you put that money into rebuilding your 302 (that's what I did, look at my gallery, I've got NO issue with turning my 33X12.50s
)I had a 400 in my first Bronco, it was an '80 that the previous owner had swapped in the 400 in place of a 351M (that was a direct swap) It was completely in stock form, 2bbl and everything. It had great low end grunt, but wouldn't breathe well above 3000 RPM. I wasn't very impressed with it.
If it's more CID you want, I'd say go with the EFI 351W, that would be a bolt-in operation, and it would still be emissions legal. I prefer EFI for off road anyway, you don't have to worry about fuel starvation when you're at steep angles.
