I was driving home last night and was pushing the truck a little, I pressed the pedal to make the tranny downshift, but suddendly I felt and hear a loud hit/shake, suddendly the truck felt like it was in Neutral, or slipping badly with very little power. I was almost home, so I left the truck on the street. Today I turned the truck on and was unable to make it go in any gear, until I placed it in R, it was like putting it in D (yet the truck felt weird and weak), I drove it like that for less than 1/2 a mile to store it home, during the drive the tranny shifted up once and it was almost the same as yesterday. There was a penetrating burned plastic smell (not the same as overheated ATF smell), and I had to push the truck to back it up in place... Any ideas? my hope and suspect is the TC, but the weird behaviour of the gears make me suspect it is way worse.
Ouch! The only time I had a similar experience was in my 92 on the highway. Same loud hit/pop/shudder but she kept going until I got off the highway. Only then, once I stopped, did she refuse to move another inch. Unlike your description however, mine revealed her ailment by vomiting copious amounts of transmission fluid all over the pavement under her. The inability to engage a moving gear is a big red flag for the transmission.
The answer as to whether the problem is in the t-case or the transmission is whether or not the symptoms change when you shift from 2WD to 4WD. If they don't, I have bad news for you.
How could the transfer case be affecting the truck's ability to move? it wasn't engaged at the moment. I tried to retrieve codes with my code reader, but I got nothing... I'll clean the contacts on the engine bay port and try again tomorrow. I'll also be taking down the pan to see if I notice anything. It could be the valve body or a solenoid.
The burnt smell was from the ATF, so that might mean something got stuck inside the transmission or the TC. Before anything I'll take the pan down and check if there is any visible damage there, then adjust the MLPS and pour new ATF if I deem it worthy of a try. Since the damage occurred when the transmission was downshifting could I suspect of the valve body or solenoid pack? or maybe it's a hard part? what do you guys think?.
So you put it in reverse and it only wanted to go forward as if it was in drive?
Sounds to me like something has come apart and is binding up.
Drop the pan and investigate. That would be my first move.
I'll just get a new transmission, found a rebuilt one for around $600 installed. And I get my tranny back, so it's a great deal, I might tinker with it to find the cause of the failure.
I think I would try to pull codes again and if all are 111's drop the pan then if all looks good replace MLPS. Then if not fixed send PCM in to be tested and repaired if necessary at ECMTOGO.COM.
With burned plastic smell my bet is on the PCM. If it is then your $600 transmission will not fix it of course.

Rebuilt E4OD installed for $600?
That's either the deal of the year or the steal of the year. I'd honestly be worried about that price. That is extremely low. Around my parts, you're looking at about $1300 for a 2wd and $1500 for a 4wd.
B4hntn, the smell was from the burnt ATF. Either way, they don't want my old trans, so if it turns out it was the MLPS then I'll have a fresh trans that won't leak and a used one to sell. The price could be explained by the distortion caused on the economy by the currency control that's on effect in Venezuela.

Well, it's done, as of now my truck is on the shop receiving the fresh trans, let's hope all goes well, I just want my truck back and in proper working order...
And it's done, the new trans sure feels like it's worth way over the $660 (installed and filled) I paid, It shifts amazingly well and firm (no hard shakes, but you sure feel the changes), goes over all four speeds like it should and doesn't seem to hesitate. The OEM torque converter seems to have improved the performance of the truck too, it feels like there is less power loss in the trans + TC. With the recently added cooler I just hope this trans keeps working the way it has so far. I also purchased a B&M shift kit (10025) and expect to have it here next sunday. This should also help the trans and reduce wear, right?.
P.S.: Pics of the carnage of my previous trans soon, the poor thing...
