Oh joy...

So while trying to figure out squeaks in the front end i found a few "fun" problems. Both motor mounts are shot (302) the steel on both is cracked really bad. It looks like the drag link is worn out, the side opposite the steering box has about a 1/4" of vertical play and is missing the rubber boot. And i still dont know what exactly is squeaking...

Does anyone use the anti squeak kit like part no F16761-5 (not FoMoCo # i know) in the NPD catalog. It says its a 1" wide rubber strip used in between the majority of the sheet metal parts on the front end of which my truck has zero rubber in between.

Yeah, Dave, one thing always leads to a thousand more!!

As for the 1" rubber stuff, I used it on between some of the front fender parts on my '37 Ford and it worked well but that's a lot different than a slick. I'm not exactly sure where you'd put it unless you're talking about along the area where the inner/outer fender bolts together and maybe between where the core support sits on the frame.

Maybe your squeaks are coming from those motor mounts. I'd probably fix all those other things first and see if the squeaks go away before messing with adding the rubber. Good luck!

Squeeks? Heck... just turn the radio up.

Here is one old piece of advice I always wanted to try but never have.

Supposedly, you can hold a short length of water hose up to your ear and tape the other end near the area of the squeek or noise. Have someone drive your truck and you can listen for a base level. Then stop, move the hose and repeat until you pin point the noise.

A picture would be nice if you do this.

Good luck.

A video would be even better....I can see it now....you hanging off the front end with a hose in your ear while someone drives you down the road.....
