ok guys so i did a search for dynos close to me.... found one an hour and a half south of me.....75 bucks for 2 pulls.... but did i read we dont wanna use a mustang dyno? and i might have mad that up...lol also for the guys that have been on a dyno...tips please chip setting gear ? iam a 5 speed with 410 gears and 37s... chip has hot , daylee , eco, race thanks guys....
Hey Jason, I've read that too about not using a mustang dyno. I'd like to get on one too, but haven't looked yet. I know where there are a couple "mustang" dynos. If i find one, I'm trying it in the hot tune, then which ever other one feels the best driving.
Jason I think the issue with the Mustang dyno is that it is an inertia type dyno and it can't be "loaded" to provide enough resistance to spool up a turbo. The way these trucks work you have to have enough rolling resistance to provide some load so you can get the turbo spooled up good. An inertia dyno is basically just a big flywheel that you spin and they don't give enough resistance to these big torque monster diesel engines. Some guys can very carefully ride the brake enough to get the turbo spooled and then they let off and give it the beans. This could work if you're allowed to drive the truck yourself, but some places want their "operator" to drive the truck and they won't let you do it yourself.
As for the gearing, I think most recommend that you use the 1:1 ratio gear, which on your 5 speed would be 4th gear.
yeah i just found my new best friend ....so found a shop just 10 min away that has a dyno jet called them 3 pulls for 50 bucks..... so iam hopein next weekend to see them on sat....
Good deal Jason, I'll be waiting for the results! John Woods is a couple hundred miles south of me and told me once I get mine running to come down and get on his dyno. I don't know what kind it is but he said to bring my camper with me and we will go on the back roads and he will adjust my shift points and line pressures. I'm not sure if he can live tune, hope so.
