M5OD Failure

I have an 88 F250 with 5.0L engine and M5OD trannie. Truck has 203000 miles and I am experiencing my 3rd transmission failure. In all three cases I lost the input shaft and bearing. Is there a heavier duty transmission that I can use to replace the M5OD and that will be a straight forward proposition to install: ie, no major modifications involved?

Are you 100% sure its an M5OD? ZF 5 speed will bolt to your engine but will need driveshaft modification and would need to move the crossmember.

Yes, it is definitely the M5OD. How hard are these ZF 5 speeds to get ahold of?

M5OD Failure

Any 87- 96 (or there abouts) F250 with a 300 or 351 will have everything you need to do the swap. The 300s and 351s in F250s used the ZF, the 302 used the M5OD. If you can find a donor truck at a wrecking yard that would be the easiest. Everything will bolt in.
