Just got my guages from DIS , and going to embark on installation. I have found quite a few article and photos for installation on a 1997 Ford. My question is where to mount the trans temp sensor for a 2001 excursion. A picture would be greatly appreciated. Any tips on wiring the guages for pillar mounting wuld also be useful.
Thanks, interesting site, unfortunately his trans temp guage is mounted on an auxilliary filter unit. He did give me some ideas about wiring. Thanks for the site, lots of good info.
keep looking, he had to move the external filter when he re-did the suspension. he then moved it to a port on the side of the tranny........ it's there, trust me
I did find the port, it looks like its the same size as the probe. Of course the Isspro comes with 3 or 4 fittings, all too big for the port. The pictures I have of an install show a port with a much bigger fitting. Probably the difference fo 1997 to 2001. Thanks again. Can't wait till it stops raining in NJ so I can do the install.
also, autometer sells a "manifold" that you can splice in to the steel cooler lines complete with compression fittings that you might want to take a look at. it's on their website.
Just an update. The rans temp sensor was not a problem, right next to the location where the linkage and electronics attach for the trans, there is a rather small port. Just happens to be the same size as the sensor. The only down side of the Isspro guage is that the length of the sensor lead just makes it to the probe and back to the control module. Mounting that rans temp on the lowest guage location definitely helped. The rest of the install went slow, but I take my time and work things through.. Almost like woodwork, measure twice, cut once.
I'll post some pictures on the my page once the weather clears.
Thnaks for your advice, the other pages had some good info.
