rev x is best

So I finally got my last oil change/test done. My testing was on the three main oil additives that get the most hype. 1, hotshots secret 2, archoil and 3, rev x. So ill start with hotshots, now to my knowledge I don't have didn't have any stuck or failed injectors. I didn't really find hotshots made any difference what so ever in performance fuel economy or quieting the injectors, my test sent to the refinery didn't show much improvement in extended lubricity or extded life over my initial "no additive" test. So in my eyes although its easy ro buy at any tractor supply store I think its useless. Next I tried the archoil. I did notice a lot better cold starts (its been winter during this test) even over the hot shots which was done in the summer. The injectors seemed a bit smoother and test came back with much greater extended performance all over the board. That being said I did notice towards the last 1500 miles the injectors were getting a little louder. Fuel mileage was same as both hotshots and no additive. Finally the rev x. Although archoil uses a "nano borite" and rev x larger particle borite, I found after my first 2 runs an incridible difference in performance with crisp throttle response and much quiter injectors. My fuel mileage has increased by about .5 a mile and has a nice smooth idle. All my tests should be fairly consistant I fuel at the same station every time I drive the same route everyday and nothing has been changed to the truck since I started. I have not sent in the rev x oil sample for this test is only 500 miles in. Its odd how the oil you put the least amount of in your engine seems to work best! Ill keep you posted when I send in the sample, but so far rev x is the winner for me

Thanks for starting this thread as it caused me to start thinking back to the worries I had when the new LE oils were coming out. Were they meant for our engines/emissions? No, they were for the newer DPF equiped diesels.

I need to do some research but one component I'd like to find in an aftermarket additive package is zinc dithiophosphate -- a very interesting compound a (much much smarter than me) friend talked about positive results from tests and production using it...

Time to hit BITOG again me thinks.... Keep us informed on Rev X -- your seat of the pants eval will likely be born out in the testing you do....

props to you brother

Might have a look at this thread:

Analyzing Oils and Additives for the 6.0L - TheDieselGarage.com

A look at different oils with Rev-x type stuff and ZDDP additives, since you are interested in Zinc

Wish I didn't put all the stockpiled <old> Delo I had in everything else instead of saving it for Dan....

Looks like the LE is the next best, based on that. Dang I wish I'd stayed awake during chem classes.....

Does that z-max stuff have the zinc you were talking about? Used that in a gas job I had awhile back. It claimed to "soak" in the metals. Weather it did or not I don't know never had a motor issue though of course that was before I even really cared what went in a motor! Lol.

How did you add the Rev X to your oil? Just poured it in the filler neck? I seen some where you are supposed to remove the pipe that your oil filter goes on and pour it down in the engine like that for proper use. Is this true?

Good question... it doesn't really say but I'd assume anywhere you can get oil in is fine cause it all gets mixed and tossed around once it drains to the pan and gets sucked back up the pickup tube.

I have to look into zmax, but yes the ZDDP has been determined to penetrate the metal itself. The friend I referenced is now retired but was a Sr. chemical physicist for lubricant additives at Chevron Research. The testing they did showed penetration of some number (can't recall) of microns deep into the metal itself. In particular one product I used in diffs and manual Trans was Chevron's Ultra-Gear -- stopped using it when I stopped racing Porches...

I haven't kept in touch with him unfortunately or I'd just ask him!

I need to do some more reading (need a current education) on today's oils and additives. The BITOG I mentioned is a really great web site for this kind of info, it's: - Bob is the Oil Guy and numerous folk post their oil analysis reports there along with what they were running and trying to achieve. Without checking (yet) my guess is a number of our FTE'ers are there as well as I know from the past many other Ford and non-Ford diesel folk...

The place i scene it saying that you need to install it right below the oil filter was a video on YouTube talking all about Rev X. It was the only one of it's kind i had seen. My friend works on big rigs all the time an says lucas is the worst stuff u can use. He has seen it just clog the oil pick up and starve the motor for oil. I just don't want to add the Rev X incorrectly and destroy my motor

A couple of thoughts on how to make sure whatever you add in doesn't go in concentrated:

Wait for an oil change, dump just enough out of a gallon jug (into the motor of course) to put the additive in and start shaking! do it on the first gallon in and the rest will act as "chasers" to move it into the sump.

or not as ideal: drain some of your oil into an extremely clean container (again I'd at least go a gallon). Blend in the additive and pour it back in the motor.

Personally I'd do it the 1st way...
