Hi, 1976 460 bone stock parked it in november running like a top. Started it last weekend running bad, #8 cyl dead. Pulled valve covers 1 pushrod broken and in the valley, other one bent like a pretzel. All other valve train components in all other cylinders fine. Timing chain and sprockets replaced 20 000 miles back. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Something weird with lifters after sitting maybe? Not sure what to say but to put new ones in it and seeing if it bends them, or if it was just something weird from sitting.
Judging by your signature, it looks like it was just time for it to go, haha
My 460 sat for two years and when we fired it up it ran but started losing cylinders. When I pulled the valve covers we found 8 bent push rods. By tapping the valves with a lead hammer we discovered the sticky valves. By using some lubricating oil and some taps with the lead hammer after a couple days no more sticky valves. I've been driving it around for 3 months now on all 8, lol.
I don't think that is neccessary, I've owned this beast since the last millenium and always let it sit over winter with no issues on start-up. Could be just a case of metal fatigue.
