I have a 2007 King Ranch 6.0 SD leveled and 35"s w banks tuner IQ exhaust and yeah i bought the intake too . Great deal on Black Friday so since it was going on the card why not and so far its the bomb and my truck loves it !Okay my next step is changing the gears to maybe the 4:10 OR lower ? Where this truck is going I wont ever drive over 85 miles an hour and will be driving winding mountain roads and at times pulling 8000lbs between horses and trailer weight . I know I need to change the gears it came with but how low should I go ? I also have the LSD rear end and have heard its almost useless so I think I should put a locker up front and keep the LSD rear just change the gears .Okay I want an opinion or 2 of what gears I should do and what locker up front and I also need a differential mechanic somewhere around Bradenton Florida that can do this swap for me and hassle free . I want quality and experience and a fair price for the work being done and the parts needed . Anybody able to help here ? Thanks
4.30 or 4.56 would probably be a little below stock for yourtruck. I have looked for a gear ratio calculator for a diesel andhaven't had any luck in the past.
I'd say your alright with the gears you have, but I'm not 100% because you burn diesel. I wouldn't put a locker in the front, you don't do any insane 4x4 and you can't turn much with a locker in the front when in 4x4 or you will tear the front end up
If you're going to be in Florida/where it's flat more often than not, then leave in the 3.73s. Why spend $2k on gears to add a couple hundred RPMs all the time instead of just using the T/H shift the few times you find yourself towing up a real mountain. 8k of trailer weight isn't enough to justify a re-gear by itself, even with the 35s. Seeing as how a lot of those trucks came stock with 34" tires and 3.73s you're not really pushing the envelope of needing more of anything. If you are dead set on it, it's your money to spend, but it's not needed at all for what you have.
Lockers are for work trucks or extreme off road...That being said I don't know what you are going to do...I would get rid of the LS in the rear for a better unit if you are going to be gearing it anyway...Also if you are going to keep the 6.0 make sure the engine is good to go with studs gaskets EGR delete. Coolant filter and so on..
