Idler Arm Bushing
Ive been dealing with rock auto and they sent me 3 bushings, two AC Delco brand ones which AC Delco told them as well as me that they come with steel inserts to make them fit the OEM arm but they did not. I got refunded and ordered a third one but this time a Raybestos professional one and it too came with no steel insert to make it fit. Rock Auto told me though that the Raybestos one doesnt come with one cause they told the customer service guy that it uses the oem insert. I got my money refunded back cause I didnt want to argue with the guy after I told him all three of them between AC Delco and Raybestos had Harris on them and the same identical part number.
So if someone can help I am looking for a idler arm bushing the support end for a 1978 Cougar XR-7.
The part number on the arm itself is D5OW-3355-AA, this leads me to believe that 74 - 75 year model bushings might fit. But if someone could direct me where to get the correct bushings from with inserts or even give me a part number of the orignal support end bushing so I can continue my NOS search I would greatly appreciate it.
I've got too much time invested in this to say to hell with it and fork over $60+ for a new idler arm when I am looking at just $25 - $30 to rebuild the orignal.
Most aftermarket replacement chassis bushings will not come with any OEM insert or shell as they're also called. On my '00 & '03 E250's replacing the I Beam axle pivot bushings (Pro-Thane ureathane) its specifically instructs reusing existing or newly acquired OEM shells.
I'd contact the local dealer and see what's available----you might be pleasantly surprised cost wise. FTE has a few sponsors that might be helpful too---I'd give them first shot since you're okay with mail order.
