Wheels and tires to small

Last June I bought my F350 CC and the previous owner swapped out the wheels and tires to a smaller size. It should have 275/70/18, but it has 265/70/17 instead. After researching I found 295/70/17 would be the right height but would they be to wide? I may have to buy new 18" wheels to correct this. I think I should be getting better fuel mileage also. Can shorter tires (these turn over about 30 times more in a mile than stock size) use more fuel? I think so, but I was wrong once. So would 295's be to wide? Thanks - Dale

So what do you think? Would I get better mileage with taller tires?
If I stay with the 17" wheels, will the 295's fit?
