Does anyone know if the post that moves the pintle supposed to have a tight seal around it? Of course it has to move up and down as the diaphragm works on it, but should it seal to the point that no intake vacuum can come through?
The reason I ask is that I have had a slightly shaky idle, rich exhaust, poor mpg, and fouled 1 & 2 plugs that I have been trying to solve. I had a friend hook up his Snap-On scan tool. We watched the O2% reading and as I sprayed carb cleaner at the EGR, the O2 reading started to change. Just wondering if this is right or not.

Have you checked carefully for vacuum leaks?
As carefully as I could. I have already been down one goose chase with the EGR vacuum regulator (EVR) - that thing is supposed to have a slight vacuum leak at idle.
It's not very easy checking the back ones by the PCV, but I have checked everything up front and on the sides.
At idle, my vacuum reads 19-20in Hg, slight fluctuating.
I have not had a professional flush just yet. I have only ran bottles of Techron in each tank and next week, I am picking up a can of BG 44K from a local distributor. After that, I will see how it goes.
I know that it was commented that "Usually they do seem to leak a bit. I've seen new ones that did too," but going back to the basic question, should it leak past the pintle into the intake manifold?
