I have drum brakes on my 75 bronco. I have bled, bled, and bled, but the pedal keeps going to the floor. I thought the problem could be the master cylinder, but after replacing it with a rebuilt unit, the problem still persists. One strange thing I noted is that when I take the master cylinder cap off and lightly touch the brake pedal, brake fluid shoots up from the bottom of the front reservoir with extreme force. It seems that this force should be directed into the brake line. The only thing I haven't replaced is the proportioning valve. Could this be my problem??
Your Bronco doesn't have a proportioning valve. It is a distribution block. It also houses the valve and switch to turn the dash brake warning light on.
Does it have any leaks? Check the rubber hoses from the frame to the differentials for a swelled hose. Any leaks from the wheel cylinders?
How is the brake adjustment? The brakes themselves
Did you bench bleed the master cylinder before you installed it?
How are you bleeding the brakes? Are you getting air out or is it clean fluid?
The fluid coming out of the reservoir is considered normal. It is also possible to get a faulty master cylinder too.
