Im not asking this to be rude, but how old are you? The reason I ask is due to what your looking to do, and how cheap it seems your looking to do it. 40's are going to destroy your MPG, so theres a lot of money involved there. There hard on the tranny, brakes, and motor, which is more money. And your looking at a 900 dollar kit, that after that if you go with 40's you will need new wheels, so prob roughly 4k for those. These trucks are playtoys and work horses for people that can afford it, if your young and looking to do this on moms, or minimum wages dime, it wont happen most likely.

Hell no! With an 8" lift 38x15.5 tires my fenders rubbed... I cut them. The inner fender rubbed... Also cut them. My tires hit my leaf springs... I can't cut them.

To be honest this is just stupid to do what you want.....

I'm from a more well off family. And it's just an old truck that a family member has that I want to turn into a fun toy

Me personal I dont consider these fun toys. I use mine for what its made for. And this is going to be a real expensive toy. Already with suspension, wheels and tires your at about 5 grand if you do the work. If not closer to 6k. For 6k I can build what I know for a fact is a really fun toy. Get a 90-93 4wd Toyota truck, 22re motor preferably, 3 inch suspension, then a little body lift and throw 35's on it. The motor will go forever, its light enough to go anywhere, and light enough to hardly ever get stuck. Thats a toy.

Everyone here will tell you, these are not cheap to play with. 10k goes very very quick when working on these, and sometimes that still doesnt even get you started on the suspension.

As stated above, this is stupid, but dowhat you want.

They are fun as hell!!!! I can point mine through anything and as long as there is something big enough to get me out let’s go!!!

As for gas mileage it hurts a little but 40's don’t stop that PSD in the least bit. I can still get 11-12 mpg around town and that’s not bad considering my last gasser on 44's got 5 mpg.

Listen man if you got the time, cash and skills go for it. It’s a lot of fun when you can look at something and say "hey I built that" My truck took 5 years of tax returns and a lot of blood, sweat, and beer to build. I am not a professional mechanic or anything, it was school of hard knocks that built this thing. Just do your research. I didn’t realize that with my 99 cab and my 02 frame that they were completely wired differently. I had to rewire the entire truck from dash to tail lights and it took longer than cutting it in half. It really was just supposed to be a normal SD but I bought it without seeing it out of Texas and had it trucked to Kansas and that’s when I realized it was on 38.5's. I have since then upgraded to 40's and I also have a set of 39.5's (that’s what they say not what they measure).

If you can dream it.. build it...
