so i want to get an aod core from the junkyard to put in my 84 f150 but i don't know which core i should get. can anyone tell me which one to get & its going behind my 5.8L windsor it wont be a stock rebuild either...the cores are $50 or should i get one from the mustang or crown vic
If it's just a core it doesn't matter. If you can find one in a 5.8 vic then get that as well as the flexplate. You will need that flexplate, don't use a C6 one.
The later model the better. I wouldn't use one older than 89. The newer cases have structural and lubrication updates. 92-93 would be best and any SBF bolt pattern will bolt up as far as the bellhousing. make sure you put the large o/d servo kit, the large o/d band and the extra clutches in it. Another popular add-on is the 4r70w rear gear set. It's a little bit wider ratio. The flex-plate you can buy aftermarket if you can't find one used. Look up one for the crown vic mentioned above.
yeah i was thinking one from the 92-93 mustang i already have the 28oz flywheel since it's a 351w. & i'm replacing a C4 tranny. my local Trannsmission shop can rebuild it for me. what code is on the 92-93 aod case???

Just to make sure, you need a flexplate from an 89 Crown Vic with a 351 and AOD Trans. Using the wrong flexplate will destroy your transmission. I just talked to someone who did that and he said it ate itself within 4 miles... I know the C6 flexplate will interchange but it mounts the converter about 1/4" further back and it will eat the pump.

Now I believe that the C4 plate is the same, so if you do have a C4, which wouldn't be stock, then you should be ok. I don't know for sure, check the part numbers. Also an FMX plate is the same as the AOD is based off the FMX.
