Has anyone ever tried to upgrade the stereo in a '97 Expedition with a later model FORD factory CD/Tape?
Early '97's apparently have a different shape but can't find any info.
Would like know how to make mod's to the dashboard so that the new stereo will fit. Looking for any info or websites.
I had the combo CD/Tape with the factory CD changer. I yanked the whole unit, and got one of those install kits. All it really consists of is a plastic faceplate that is custom for the F150/expy. It fills the whole opening, but is cut out for aftermarket (DIN) size headunits. It gives you a small pocket on top, and uses factory mounting hardware. I found it to be pretty painless. You can get one at most auto radio shops, Ebay, or crutchfield.com.
Wanted to take that route, add a nice aftermarket unit. However, my wife has definite ideas about how she wants the dashboard to look so that option was thrown out early.
The other problem is, I already bought the CD/Tape unit.
(Yeah, I know, dumb thing to do!). Anyway, thanks for the input.
I am in the same boat accept I was thinking about putting a Ford factory cd/cass/changer controller unit in my 97 EB but I know the wiring is different plus mine is a Mach system with sub so I would have to reconfig my harness's to match up to a later model Expedition. I think its possible but better have some good schematics/diagrams.
