I was driving driving and didnt have any power and it died on the side of the road wouldnt start just turn over i had it tow roped home. I hopped in it the next day it started right up then would die, i had one of my buddys scan it and it gave a code for the cps. now it will turn over but just buck no start though.
Also when cranking it over i noticed it was leaking diesel from what i think is the fuel filter restriction gauge ? its on the right side of the fuel bowl it was a steady drip coming from the gauge when cranking.
Im getting a wts. also the tach is moving when cranking about 200. i also am getting smoke from the tail pipe. Also we took the fuel bowl cover off cranked and it is pumping fuel. I replaced the IDM i want to say last march or spring time. All the glow plugs are good and i just changed the injector o rings in nov.
Truck just hit 300,000 miles around the beginning of the month.
What are some other things i should be looking into ?
That sensor is either the restriction or water in fuel sensor. Mine started leaking last summer so I pulled it out, took it up to my local ace hardware and found a small square head bolt that matched the threads and put it in. No more leak. I personally don't worry about either of those sensors. I doubt they work anyways, if they do then the lights are out. I change my filter religiously and every week or two I drain the fuel bowl a little just to keep water from building up.
Alright i put a gauge on and when cracking its making over 40 psi bumping around 50 to 60. The scanner says its still the cps. I replaced it with a advanced auto one, but from what ive read is those wont work the best or be bad out of the box. Im gonna go to my ford dealer tomorrow and get a ford cps.
To see if it makes a difference.
Update
Well i bought a cps from ford and put it in and it started right up surprisingly. Im gonna buy another and put it in the glove box as a spare.
Thanks for the help guys.
