im a avid modder with my ram and last year i did 55watt 6000k hids in it and its damn bright, my dad owns a 2002 f250 superduty, he says his lights are just terrible output. do your guys' trucks have a canbus system or any problems with hid conversions? i ask cause it was a pita on my ram i needed 8 ohm resistors, capacitors, several relays etc. will i run into any road blocks with the superduty? lampout indicators or flickering . Also i could go projectors on him but id rather not so i wonder if the 55watt would melt the oem housings? i know they dont on mine but im trying to cover all my bases so he can see better.
With the HID's you would need to change out the light housings for ones designed for HID's. If his lenses are fogged I would polish them and then install some Silvania's ultra silverstar bulbs. That is what I have had for 4 years now and really like them. I polish my lenses about once every year or so.
i know of 4 stock trucks here in town that had hid kits installed and would shut off when the lights were turned on.
another thing to remember, if the truck did not come from the factory with HID lights, they will not be legal to use. there are no US DOT legal aftermarket HID kits.

This. I absolutely hate it when people put HIDs in vehicles that weren't designed for them. All they really do is blind oncoming traffic, that's why they're illegal. If you want better visibility, convert it to the 05-07 headlights. They are much better than the older ones, legal, and cheaper than an HID kit.

Those suck too! Lol
Hid's are a huge upgrade to the Super Dutys. Definitely not legal though. I know quite a few people that use them and have never once heard of any kind of a
"frequency issue". Just sayin..
I don't know what you're talking about, but the stock lights on my 05 do a great job of lighting up the road in front of me on low beam, flip them on high beam and I can see a LONG way down the road.

I hate mine. I tow a lot with my truck at night, on roads where there is very little to no lighting at all, other than the moon and the very little traffic out there. I've never felt like the lighting was sufficient to me. Especially when the weather gets interesting. The lighting does a good job, further down the road, versus closer. Which is what most trucks do IMO. I personally just installed Hid's on my truck yesterday, I tried them last night....HUGE difference. What the hell was I waiting for!?! I really needed better lighting, and wouldn't install the Hid's because I didn't need any other headaches. I already own a 6.0 lol
hmm mixed answers, is the 05 headlight upgrade bolt on? also this truck is 100 percent stock, minus floor mats lol
Search for "05-07 headlight upgrade" There are many threads on that.
Regarding the HID's I installed a few sets in my buddies vehicles. Of all the heat ranges used (4.5k, 5k, 6k, 8k) the 5k sets provided the cleanest light in stock housings, ok dispersion and decent hotspots in stock housings.
Personally, I like a good upgraded stock-type bulb in my headlights. I have had good luck with PIAA bulbs.
