I have 89 ford f150 300 with 5 spd tranny. Lately the second gear is a little rough to shift into and the tranny is getting pretty warm and toasty! The fluid level is good and the fluid is cleaned checked myself. Any suggestions on curing the problem or preventing it

Sounds like the syncro rings are worn, try double clutching (push in clutch, pull from 1st to neutral, release clutch, push cluth back in, then pull into 2nd), if it goes in smooth, then the syncronizer ring is worn.
