Unwanted racing acceleration

My wife is on a trip in our 2000 Eddie Expedition. She called me from SC and told me the vehicle was suddenly flooring the accelerator for no reason and then cutting out. The mechanicals all are fine, oil pressure, temperature etc. only sign of problem is the electrics start blinking.

She has got the car to a dealer who has run a computer diagnostic on it and pronounced the problem as major.. but no idea what it is as the diagnotic has not shown any problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like your PCM (computer) blew a gasket. I've been following several Expy boards for 2.5 years and have never heard of the gas pedal going to the floor.

Unwanted racing acceleration

My F-150 had a similiar problem however the accelerator didn't quite hit the floor. The engine would suddenly take off, and I would have to put it in neutral and stop, the accelerator would be very close to the floor. When I got out and checked the throttle it was stuck wide open, like it had opened itself. I could not force it back the way it was suppsoed to go, instead I pulled it open a bit more and it ratched back. Mecahnic figured it was the throttle cable, but when they changed it the problem persisted. So they disconnected the cruise control and haven't had a problem since then.
