I have a '96 E150 Van with a headlight problem. Basically, both headlights stopped working. They don't work in either position (bright or standard), however, the "flash" on the stearing column does work (so the lights do indeed light up when I flash them). I checked the fuses and didn't find a problem. Any suggestions???
Sounds like your switch took a dump. I have had similar problems and in all cases it was either the switch on the dash or the stalk mounted dimmer switch. The dash switch is easier to replace and should cost less, maybe try that first. Good luck, Joe.
Well, I went ahead and removed the dash to get to the switch. After what seemed like 50 screws I got the panel off and removed the switch. Did a continuity check and the headlignt switch seems to work fine. So, it must be the dimmer on the stearing column. I put everything back together and naturally I have a new problem! The door panel lights that normally come on when you open the door don't shut off (and then, of course, drain the battery). About the only way I can stop this is to either remove a fuse or disconnect the battery. I thought I was careful when I pulled the switch (yes, I disconnected the battery), but I guess not. Now the question is why won't the door lights go out? The anti theft light goes on and off when I open and shut the doors, so it seems to me the door switches are working. I am having fun now!.. dwj
