I have a 2000 Ranger 4.0L with intermittent no start. Have spark, fuel pressure is 55psi, temp sensors are reading correctly. When there is a no start condition I can pop the scharder valve, relieve the pressure on the fuel rail and it will start. Has anyone ran into this problem before, has me stumped.
We need some more clues.
Did the intermittent no start problem begin suddenly, after some event????
Is the problem more prevalent on a cold, or warm start????
Have the computer scanned for trouble codes & post All code Numbers as they can offer up good trouble shooting clues.
It requires compression, air, fuel & spark to make em run, so when its in one of its no start fits, one or more of those things is going missing. So when its acting out, use your inductive timing light & fuel pressure gauge to see whats going missing.
Not sure just yet why it would want to start After bleeding fuel pressure off, but lets keep it in the back of our mind, but not let it stop your trouble shoot.
Some thoughts for consideration, keep us posted on how it goes.
Started all of a sudden. No codes. Have changed spark plugs and crank sensor. Have spark at plugs, fuel pump is running, have injector pulse, MAF sensor reading correctly, all systems seem to be a go with no start. Seems to be more prevelent after a cold soak or after an hour after cool down. Sometimes will start after cold soak with no problems, but when it will not start can press in scharder valve and it crank with no problem.
OK, well with it responding to a fuel pressure bleed off, perform a fuel delivery rate over time test at the fuel rail schrader valve test port. It should pump like 1/2 pint/15 seconds.
