EGR info

I have searched and read and have not found what I am looking for. I am interested in knowing what removing the EGR coolers and EGR valve body do. I was looking on line and sinister makes a kit that removes the coolers and replaces the elbow. I would like to know what this accomplishes and if there are any adverse affects of doing this mod. Thanks.

2 things, if your coolers fail it can cause the engine to hydrolock from ingesting coolant. The second is stops exhaust gasses from being ingested through the intake, so only clean air will be going through.

No real effects but the egr acts as a waste gate for excess boost
.
you will want an alarm to yell at you if you push to much boost imho

The stock Intake Elbow has a Throttle Motor that closes a butterfly while the EGR valve is dumping Soot down your engines throat via rhe intake.

You unplug this with the aftermarket intake elbow, which caused me a CEL.

Some tuners may delete this function ... Mine didn't.

if you run a tuner that shuts off the EGR does it still act as a waste gate?

I run the H&S black Max and have also done the Sinister egr cooler delete including the intake elbow. I noticed an improved and smoother throttle response. yes the egr acts as a wastegate when enabled, but unless your running the hottest setting and excessive boost , no worries. That being said 40 to50 psi boost scenarios is where you need to start thinking about aftermarket head studs. Hope this helps. I am running ARP head studs with the stock Ford Gaskets.

cheap egr delete

...could a guy just install a blocking plate at the egr valve to prevent the exhaust gases from entering the intake?

The block off plates go in place of the coolers. One on drivers side at back and another in the front. I changed up pipes and moved ebp sensor over to where the passenger side up pipe used to connect to the third pipe. The third pipe being the one that used to connectto the cooler.
