Since that valve is higher up, I've kept an eye on it. However since its happening after I'm am away for awhile... I'll have to keep an closer watch on that.
Do you recommend one coolant pressure test over another?
If the heater core leaks, that's an indication it's going bad?
No I do not own a pressure tester but a friend has a snap on one that I have used. and if the heater core is leaking than it needs to be replaced. I installed a new one in about an hour using directions from cheezit.
So it's 8 months later and I'm finally getting around to this.
I've swapped out the heater core. I was able to take care of everything by the book, but am stumped on re-attaching the heater core tubes at the firewall. Since my quick-connect couplers came out with the old heater core, I went to the dealership and picked up the kit: E69Z-18D434-A, which has a set of 3/4" plastic couplers, gaskets and spacers.
The kit I purchased is 3/4". While I was able to install the new gaskets and spacer just fine, the coupler doesn't seem to fit the endings I have (which I believe may actually be 5/8"). The issue is that I can't find a document which actually specifies what the 2005 F-250 6.0L came equipped with. Can anyone help a brother out? See the pics below for a visual of what I'm talking about:
The original quick-connect coupler

E69Z-18D434-A comes back to an F150 or up to 2003 7.3 L? I believe you have the wrong couplings. I checked all over the internet and don't see replacements for these. It looks like you have to replace the entire hose. About $35-45 at Auto Nation Ford online. The trick is finding the correct hose. There is one for ambient temp and one without, there is one for high ambiient temp and speed control?
I have no idea which one you need. I saw some dorman stuff too, but you'd either have to scab the couplers out of them or splice them in. Seems weird.
I agree they do not look like the right ones. When I did my heads I replace all my hoses with ford replacements and they came complete with those installed. I would take them back and you can remove the one side faily easy and take it with you to confirm before leavine the dealer.
I've been keeping an eye on this and it appears the leak is coming from somewhere up around the front of the passenger seat or the back left if you were looking at the truck head-on. It's a fine mist being sprayed, so I'm guessing there is a pinhole that's leaking when the system is under pressure.
I'm going to pick up a coolant leak detection system, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Anyone have a guess as to what would be leaking up there besides the heater core entrance/exit tubes?
I don't see Your signature, but when this happened to Me it ended up being the EGR cooler.
Alright, I got this one figured out. Went to Advance Auto and picked up 2 pairs of the Dorman 800-407 retaining clip assortment (3/4 and 5/8). The box was labeled for GM, but I had read that Ford and GM were interchangeable. Popped the 3/4" ones in and wham-bam, they fit perfectly. Snapped on and my heater core has been working flawlessly w/o any leaks on the tubes for 48 hours. Case closed for now... unless a leak develops elsewhere.

I take it the heater core was leaking or di you just change it out to eliminate it?
