Fan Question
Here's a catalog that lists the cfm of Hayden fans you can get in the local stores, and as you can see from the chart, they do not make a fan large enough to cool any of the diesels or the big block trucks. They only recommend them as add-on booster fans. http://www.haydenauto.com/upload/Hay...ctric-fans.pdf
I was hard headed and decided to put two of their largest fans on my diesel, and guess what? Sure enough when pulling a load they would not cool the engine well enough and I had to keep pulling over. The reason I went the electric fans was the very poor reputation the replacement fan clutches have for my truck. What I ended up doing was locking the stock fan solid and taking the electric fans back out, and no more cooling problems, no matter how much I am pulling.
Some people have success with taurus fans, and I believe some of the newer diesels may have electric fans of some sort, but to use any of these "good" fans, you have to upgrade the alternator and the electrical system to handle it. I have a 100amp alternator on my truck, and it was barely carrying the two fans that I had bought. When I had the headlights on, the A/C on, and the defrost on high, the stock alternator was not keeping up very well. I like stock fans.
My idea was to keep the stock fan and add a single pusher to give me peace of mind more than anything else.
Amps shouldn't be a problem as I have just purchased a 200 amp Powermaster.
