Mechanic just notified us that the engine in our 2006 Mariner Hybrid may be toast.
I checked on line for used engines but no luck so far.
Has anyone done a engine swap like this and what can I expect for cost?
Thanks
If you are willing to go used, check car-part.com for availability. I would expect at least 8-10 hours, maybe more, labor time. There are at least two ways to R&R, leaving the transmission in place, or removing it along with the engine as an assembly. Factory suggests lowering it from below, with the vehicle hoisted up in the air.
I'd get an idea of the expected cost from independent shops. Most FoMoCo dealers will not install used parts. I checked, and prices ranged from just under $1k to $2300.
What symptoms did you have that make you think it needs to be replaced?
