I'm wanting to fix the cruise on my truck. I have a78 f150 scab 4x4 400 c6. The cruise currently does not operate at all. This is the first truck I have had with cruise so I'm just looking for where to start.
Hopefully someone with a shop manual can dig up the actual procedure. At the very least, you can make sure that the throttle vacuum servo can hold vacuum, and that there is finite resistance in between the two terminals of the speed sensor.
The shop manual for my '73 Galaxie should cover cruise, and if someone can confirm that the cruise setups are relatively similar to trucks (which I would think would be the case), I could see if there are any useful specifications.
I have a 79 factory shop manual. If you want pages from it or procedures or whatever I will be happy to help. I don't have it at my house, my dad has it now but if I run out to the farm I will have it right away and can take pictures of pages and post for you guys.
It would be awesome if you could post the procedures. I would like to get it in perfect working order cause I have a trip planned out to Utah and Colorado to do a little camping in the fall. I would hate to not have cruise.
I think all the parts are there. I bought the truck a couple months ago from the second owner. It's pretty original still has the metal dealer nameplate on the tailgate. Tailgate works perfect too not bowed and no dents which is rare for my area. I just need some direction on what to look for also where to get parts would be great.
I am in the same situation. If maybe we could pool all the parts/info involved in getting a cruise control up and running, we could have a very usuefull post going.
I myself believe to have most of the parts together, just unsure of how they all work togegher.

Located inside cab, adjacent to fuse box. 1978/79: Horn relay plugs into it. No Speed Control, no horn relay.
thanks number dummy. I think for picture people like myself, some pics of parts with attached part numbers would go a long way. I can't speak for anyone else, but without having everything in front of you, it is hard to get a mental picture of what all the parts required are? I my self have never had an a/c truck, so it is a big learning curve! ha
I have the shop manual for e/f series. It has all the procedures and testing and so-on. What you need is the control box that goes under the dash that gets signal from the speed sensor, steering wheel, and everything else. It plugs into the harness from the steering column. I have one in my flat bed that I had to abandon in the cab swap and it may still be good. You need the speed sensor in the speedo cable, these are on ebay. The turn signal switch is the same. Then you need the servo and also the cable that it runs, and then you need the bracket on the intake manifold, the steering wheel, and the right 2 speedo cables.
I am sure that there is other stuff I am missing but you can get an idea atleast. I will try to post pics of the manual tonight after I get back in the house. I might have a few of these parts laying around still, I don't really know. Good luck!
Thanks that's exactly what I needed. I'll try and take a look at the truck tomorrow. Once I get that fixed I'll finish up my 70s era aluminum camper, retro fit the ac system and have a sweet retro camping rig.
