We are OK. The 3 valve 4.6 was used in the Mustang from 2005 but not in the Explorer until 2006 and not in the F150 until 2009. This shows you don't really know your Ford trucks but that is OK and shows why you bought a time bomb. Looks like they fixed the phaser problem by 2006.
No need to scold me on my impression that this is fraud. I believe the noise indicates that the parts are failed, just like a transmission that shifts funny or an engine with a slight rod knock. It is just a matter of time until a more massive failure occurs as collateral damage. Back to discussing trucks. You can work out your warranty scheme with your dealer, the insurance company, and the God of your choice.

Quite the contrary. I didn't make those statements, Ford did.

Yes, George, I agree with you. Unfortunately neither the insurance carriers nor Ford believe it
Back to discussing trucks. You can work out your warranty scheme with your dealer, the insurance company, and the God of your choice.
For some reason, you are ‘hung up’ on the idea that because you think it’s fraud, everyone else should. It’s clear you do not understand what fraud is. In order for fraud to occur, one must intentionally misrepresent a material fact either directly or by omission. Neither I or the dealer have done either. I have not misrepresented the condition of the truck, left out a material fact, lied directly or indirectly. The insurance carriers not only did not give a definition of ‘existing condition’ but they did not ask if the truck had any existing failed conditions, partially failing conditions, any noises, squeaks or any other odd behaviors. There were no questions of the sort. Nada, Zip!! As a matter of fact, the only questions they asked were, the year, make, model, VIN, 2WD or 4WD and mileage along with personal information.
To this point, you have made some presumptuous statements and have provided nothing other than your opinion. I provided documentation to support my statements. The TSB you referenced says some 2005 Ford trucks had a 4.6L 3v engines. What or whom should I rely upon, a TSB written by Ford or your statement with no supporting documentation?
You might want to contact Ford and get documentation that supports you statements to include asking Ford to admit that when the cam phasers start to make noise, they consider the parts to have failed. Finally, if the cam phasers failed, Ford would have issued a recall and to date, no recalls have been issued to replace failed cam phasers If you find out that they have, I and no doubt thousands of others would like to know about it and we would be very grateful to you. Here’s hoping you try and succeed but until then, George, the bottom line is, do you know what you’re talking about?
George, I wish you the best. Maybe you can prove Ford's TSB wrong I sincerely hope so and would like nothing better.
Ken: NO F150 had the 4.6 3 valve engine until 2009. Ford does not say they did; the TSB does not say that they did. (Read the svc time quotes in the actual TSB to see the applications--5.4 in truck and Expy, 4.6 in Mustang.) This is a fact not subject to discussion. Mustang had the 3V 4.6 in 2005 which was the first application for that engine; Explorer got it in 2006. Read the specs on this website or read this Wiki article about applications for the various mod motors:
Well sir, you are correct. It's the 4.6L 2V. It doesn't say 2V but that is the only other 4.6, correct? My humble apology in that regard.
As far as the spark plugs are concerned, I am aware of the problem and I have no regrets about purchasing a truck with the 5.4 3V. Removed correctly, it should not be a problem although it will be expensive, $350. On the other hand, I bought the truck for $6k under book and the plugs will be good for as long as I'll own the truck.
Yo, George. Thanks for straightening me out on the 4.6.
Actually there were 2V, 3V, and 4V (twincam) versions of both the 4.6 and 5.4...check the Wiki page for apps. The 4V 4.6 was used only in Lincolns and Shelby Mustangs along with some limited foreign apps. And the 4V 5.4 was used in Navigators, Cobra Mustangs, the Ford GT40, and odd foreign stuff as well.
Another piece of trivia is the subtle diffs between the 2V Windsor and Romeo 4.6 engines, which were sometimes used interchangeably. Ford did some weird stuff like this. (Remember the 351 Windsor, Cleveland, and M which were all different engines?)
I have spent years on the van page reminding everyone that only 2V mod motors were ever used in the vans--and they still are. Kind of like the 302 living in the Explorer thru 2001 even though every other vehicle had gone to the mod motors by 1997.
Bought a 2005 F150 King Ranch in December with 104,000 miles from a local Ford dealer. I was asked if I wanted the 1 year drive train warranty. I asked "with 104000 miles?" Sure? I am very glad I got the warranty. I heard a humming sound at 50 mphwhich sounded like the rear end on the second day I had it. The service tech took a ride with me and said it was nothing to worry about.SInce my warranty is good at any Ford dealership, I had another look at it and said it needed to be rebuilt. My ESP covered it and a rental. 100 deductable. 2 weeks later my engine froze up when driving home. Heard some ticking, it got louder, then it sounded like someone threw some wrenches in my engine all within 15 minutes. ESP cover the engine with a Ford remanufactured engine. 1 month later the transmission went out and it had a cracked case. I am now getting tired of them fixing my vehicle and paying the deductables. Yes it is a good deal but what is wrong with this vehicle? So I just picked up my vehicle on friday and on the way home it starts shaking at 45 mph. The service department has told me the right front caliper was bad the rotor was shot, and my front coil springs are broke......Both?! wowSo now this is not covered and they are now getting some cash from me. I am wondering if I should changet he name of my King Ranch to Ranch of the Lemon. Overall the Ford Company (not the original one I bought the ESP from ) was very good at honoring my ESP.

You bought an 8 year old vehicle with over 100k miles on it. 30 years ago, most vehicles with 100k miles on them were ready for the crusher.
I'd say you did the right thing with the warranty and are very lucky. "What is wrong with this vehicle" is that it is a used 8 year old vehicle with over 100k miles on it. You have no idea how it was serviced, whether it was abused, what kind of things it has been through. Most people trade in a vehicle because there ARE problems with it.
Buy new if you want trouble free. Even then, there is no 100% guarantee, but at least you will be able to assure that the vehicle is not abused and that it is well maintained.
