I want to tow my boat, motor and trailer with a combined weight of about 5500 lbs. Will the 4.6L V8 engine work or will I need the 5.8L V8/10? I want to use F150 Supercrew to do the towing. I'll being towing about 150 miles "tops" one way and very infrequently.
My wifes 99 F-150 XLT Lariat has the 4.6L engine. Based on my experiences towing with her truck you should be OK. Just take it slow and easy. You want win any races, or scale any hills at great speed. For as little as you are towing you will be OK.
Now with that said if you want to crusise at 70, and attack the hills, get a V-10
As I was reading the web page data you sent me, it says that my 96 Ranger XLT, 4.0L V6 can tow a 6000 lb trailer. Do I read this correctly? If so, I really don't need a new truck.
Seems a little heavy to me but take it out for a few trips before running out and buying a new truck. A good well balanced trailer that creates the proper tounge weight can make a heavy boat a lot lighter. On a boat that heavy I hope she has twin axles,it could make all the differance in the world.
Remember, that 6000lbs is with a driver and a full tank of gas. If you want to load the back of the truck with stuff or take a friend, that weight comes off the 6000lbs.
