valve seal question

ok i have a 1989 f250 with a 351w and it started making a strange rattling noise the other day. well me and a friend of mine pulled the intake and valve covers to check the valve springs, which was not the cause of the rattling noise, but it did cause me to find out that 6 out of 16 valve seals were either installed incorrectly or the wrong type installed. now my question is would the bad valve seals cause my motor to be weak and have bad fuel mileage? which is the reason i'm going to sell it when i get it fixed. unless the power issue and fuel mileage can be solved.
thanks
LR

No, it won't affect your performance. Assuming they aren't allowing oil to enter the cyllinders to the point af fouling spark plugs. A lot of racers don't even bother installing valve guide seals.

valve seal question

One problem that can develop with bad valve seals is when the oil drips down the valve stem, it can cook on the hot valve stem and build up to the point of choking the flow through the port. Race engines won't have this problem as they are usually torn down long before much if any build-up can occur.

Macguyver brings up a good point. Good chance it's your whole problem, but a good point nonetheless. Valves covered with trash can't flow.
